Does rotating a PDF change the page size or the print dimensions?

No. The rotation is stored as a page property rather than by redrawing the page, so a landscape page keeps exactly the same width and height and is only displayed turned. Nothing is rescaled, cropped or re-compressed, so the text stays as sharp as it was in the original file.

Is the rotation saved into the file I download?

Yes. Clicking Apply Rotation writes the new orientation into the document itself, so the pages open correctly in any reader, on a phone, and after you upload or email the file. If you close the tab without downloading, the change is lost — the original you uploaded is never modified.

Can I rotate only some of the pages?

Yes. Each page appears as its own thumbnail with its own rotate button, so you can turn page 3 while leaving the rest untouched, then apply once. That is the usual fix for a scan where only a few sheets landed sideways.

Why does the document still print sideways?

The page orientation and your printer settings are separate. Check the print dialog's orientation or the page sizing option, and make sure the driver is not forcing landscape. What you see on screen after rotating is exactly what prints once the dialog agrees.

Does rotating reduce the quality of a scanned document?

No. Rotation does not re-encode the images inside the page; it only changes how the page is presented. A 300 DPI scan stays at 300 DPI, and file size stays the same to within a few bytes of bookkeeping.

Limitation

Common Mistake

Which Direction Should I Rotate?

Work it out from the text, not from the picture. Open the page and find a line of writing: if the letters run downwards along the left-hand edge, a 90 degree clockwise turn brings them upright; if they run downwards along the right-hand edge, turn counter-clockwise. If the writing is upside down but horizontal, 180 degrees fixes it in one move.

Mixed scans follow a pattern more often than not — a duplex scanner fed sideways produces every page at 90 degrees, while a phone capture usually lands one sheet at 180. Fix the first page, then apply the same rotation to the rest in one click rather than rotating page by page.

Rotate Before You Split, Extract or Merge

Orientation is a property of the individual page, so the order of operations matters. Rotate first, while the document is still whole, then split, extract or merge — otherwise a page you extract inherits whatever state it was in, and a sideways page merged into an upright report stays sideways in the combined file.
