When Resizing Is Necessary: Social media platforms have strict image size requirements (Instagram post: 1080×1080, Facebook cover: 820×312). Website images should be optimized for fast loading. Email providers reject large attachments. Print projects need specific DPI and dimensions.

What I Tested: I used the [Image Resizer](/image-tools/image-resizer) with a 4000×3000 pixel photo (8.2MB).

• Resized to 1080×810 (web standard): File dropped to 245KB. Image remained sharp on screen. Text in the photo was still readable.

• Resized to 500×375 (thumbnail): File dropped to 68KB. Slight softening visible at 100% zoom, but perfectly fine for thumbnails.

• Resized to 2000×1500 (half resolution): File dropped to 1.1MB. No visible quality loss at normal viewing size.

Step-by-Step: (1) Open the [Image Resizer](/image-tools/image-resizer). (2) Upload your image. (3) Enter the target width and height in pixels. (4) Toggle 'Lock aspect ratio' to prevent distortion. (5) Click 'Resize Image'. (6) Download the resized file.

One Limitation: The tool maintains aspect ratio by default. If you enter custom width and height without locking the ratio, the image may stretch or compress. Always keep the aspect ratio lock enabled unless you intentionally want to distort the image.

Common Mistake: Downsizing too aggressively. Reducing a 4000px image to 200px loses so much detail that text becomes unreadable and fine textures disappear. For thumbnails, 400-600px is usually sufficient.
