Does the password appear when someone scans the QR code?
No. The password is encoded inside the QR code's data but is not displayed on screen. The phone uses it internally to connect. However, anyone who physically scans the code could theoretically extract the password using QR decoding tools.
Can I put this QR code in a framed sign at my Airbnb?
Yes. Print it at least 5cm x 5cm (2" x 2") and use a high error correction level (H) so minor damage or glare doesn't prevent scanning. Laminate it for durability.

Does a WiFi QR code expire?
No. It is static — the network name and password live inside the pattern itself, so there is nothing to renew or bill. The code stops working only if the credentials inside it stop being correct: you change the router password, rename the SSID, or delete the network.
Does a WiFi QR code change when the password changes?
Not by itself. The password is baked into the pattern at the moment you generate it, so every copy printed before the change still carries the old password and will refuse to join. Generate a fresh code with the new password and swap out the printed images.
Does a WiFi QR code need internet to work?
No. Scanning and joining are local: the phone reads the credentials from the pattern and talks directly to your router over radio. Internet is only needed for whatever you do after the phone is connected.
Can I scan a WiFi QR code with a laptop?
Usually yes, but with a step less. Recent Macs decode QR codes from the Camera app, Preview or Photos, and Windows 11 scans with the Camera app — most laptop cameras show the network name and password as text, which you then type in, rather than auto-joining the way a phone does.
How do I share a WiFi QR code from my iPhone?
Save the downloaded PNG to Photos, then send it through AirDrop, Messages or email. iPhones scan other people's WiFi codes with the Camera app, but iOS does not generate a printable WiFi QR itself — Apple's own Share Password prompt only works device-to-device while someone is trying to join your network.
Why is my WiFi QR code not working?
Check four things in order: the network name is case sensitive (HomeWiFi and homewifi are different networks); the password matches exactly, including capitals; the phone is looking at the right band — many routers broadcast 2.4GHz and 5GHz as separate names; and the password has not changed since you generated the code. If it has, regenerate.
Does my phone have a built-in WiFi QR code generator?
Android comes close: on many phones Settings > WiFi > tap the connected network > Share displays a ready-made QR of your current network. iPhone has no equivalent — it shares via the Share Password prompt instead. Neither lets you design a printable guest code with a chosen error-correction level, which is what this tool does.
Can I make a WiFi QR code without a password?
Yes — pick None (nopass) as the security type and leave the password field empty; the code then joins an open network with no password prompt. That is the correct setup for a genuinely passwordless network such as a shop's free WiFi. For a protected home network there is no such thing as a passwordless code — the password has to be inside the pattern or the phone cannot authenticate.
How do I make a WiFi QR code for guests?
The safe pattern is a guest network. Log into your router (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1), enable the guest network with its own password, then generate the QR from those guest credentials and print it. Visitors get internet; your printers, drives and main devices stay off-limits, and your real password never leaves your phone. If the router has no guest feature, treat any printed QR as a copy of your password and put it only where you would accept that.
