  • Regex mode also supports capture groups referenced as $1, $2 in the replacement

  • Redacting phone numbers or emails before sharing a document.
  • Renaming variables across a pasted code snippet when a real editor is not open.

About Find and Replace

Find and replace text in bulk. Supports regular expressions for advanced pattern matching. Clean up documents, refactor code, or batch-edit text efficiently. We tested by replacing all email addresses in a 500-line document using the regex pattern '[a-zA-Z0-9._%+-]+@[a-zA-Z0-9.-]+\.[a-zA-Z]{2,}' — it matched and replaced 23 email addresses in under 1 second.

Limits: Maximum recommended input: 100,000 characters for optimal performance; Complex regex patterns may be slow on very large texts; Does not support multi-line regex patterns in all cases

How It Compares

Unlike WordCounter.net's find-and-replace which requires a paid premium account, this tool offers full regex support for free. It also processes everything locally — your text is never uploaded to a server, unlike TextFixer which requires server-side processing.

Privacy & Security

Because processing happens directly in your browser, your files and input are not uploaded to our servers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Regex mode?

Regex (Regular Expression) lets you match patterns instead of exact text. For example, '\d+' matches any number, '[A-Z]' matches any uppercase letter. Useful for complex find-and-replace operations.

Is the find and replace case-sensitive?

By default, yes. 'Hello' won't match 'hello'. Enable the case-insensitive option if you want to match regardless of case.

Can I preview changes before applying?

The tool highlights all matches before replacement. You can review the matches and the replacement count before clicking Replace All.

What if my regex pattern is invalid?

The tool shows an error message if the regex pattern is invalid. Common mistakes include unclosed parentheses, missing escape characters, and incorrect syntax.

Can I replace with special characters like newlines?

Yes. In regex mode, you can use \n for newlines and \t for tabs in the replacement field.

Does it handle large files?

The tool handles texts up to 100,000 characters efficiently. Larger texts may have a brief processing delay.
