Compress your image to a specific target file size — 50KB, 100KB, 200KB, 500KB, or 1MB. Uses a binary search algorithm to find the optimal quality setting that gets your image as close to the target size as possible. We tested by compressing a 4.5MB PNG photo to a 200KB target — the algorithm found 42% quality in 7 iterations, producing a 198KB result. A 3.2MB JPG compressed to a 500KB target achieved 61% quality and a 489KB output, landing within 2% of the target.

What if my image can't reach the target size?
If the target is too small for the image, the tool will compress as much as possible and indicate that the target was not reached.
How does the algorithm work?
It uses binary search on quality values (0.1 to 1.0), compressing up to 10 times to find the optimal quality that gets closest to your target size.
Why can't my image reach the target?
Every image has a minimum possible file size based on its dimensions and content. A 5000x5000 photo cannot physically fit in 50KB at acceptable quality. The tool will compress aggressively but may not reach extremely small targets.
Does the algorithm modify my original image?
No. The original file is never modified. The algorithm creates temporary canvas versions at different quality levels, compares their file sizes, and keeps the best result.
Why does it take multiple seconds to compress?
The binary search compresses the image up to 10 times at different quality levels to find the optimal setting. Each iteration requires canvas re-encoding, which takes time especially for large images.
Can I enter a custom target size like 150KB?
Currently only preset targets are available: 50KB, 100KB, 200KB, 500KB, and 1MB. For custom sizes, use the regular Image Compressor with manual quality adjustment.
