Miles to Kilometers Conversion Table (mi to km)

September 30, 2026

Written by Mohammad Sohail

Use this table when you want a distance in the other unit without doing the maths. Every value is calculated from the exact factor of 1.609344 kilometres per mile, so it agrees with our Miles to Kilometers Converter — put any distance into the converter when you need something that is not printed here.

The Conversion Formula

Kilometres = miles x 1.609344. A 30 mile drive is 30 x 1.609344 = 48.28 km. A 75 mile training run is 120.70 km. For a fast estimate in your head, multiply by 1.6 — 30 miles becomes about 48 km, which is close enough for planning a trip.

Converting Kilometers Back to Miles

Miles = kilometres x 0.621371. This is the direction you hit when a European sign shows 100 km and you want to know how far that really is: 100 x 0.621371 = 62.14 miles.

Race Distances Already Converted

A 5K is 5 km = 3.107 miles. A 10K is 6.214 miles. A half marathon is 21.0975 km = 13.11 miles. A full marathon is 42.195 km = 26.219 miles, which is why every race bib and mile marker in the US says 26.2. If you train in miles and race abroad, these four numbers cover almost every event.

Real-World Distances

100 km is 62.14 miles — a common driving checkpoint, since US fuel figures use miles per gallon while much of the world uses litres per 100 km. 1 mile is 1.609 km, which is the number to memorise for pace. A football field is about 0.09 miles or 0.15 km if you need a rough yardstick.

Where People Get It Wrong

Using 1.6 instead of 1.609344 is fine for a jog but drifts by 590 metres over 100 miles — noticeable on a road trip log. The bigger error is mixing up statute and nautical miles: one nautical mile is 1.852 km, used at sea and in the air, and it is nothing like a normal mile. And never forget which way the factor runs; dividing by 1.609344 when you should multiply gives an answer that looks plausible but is wrong by nearly 40 percent.

What About Speed Units?

Miles per hour and kilometres per hour use the same factor, because the hour cancels out. 60 mph is 96.56 km/h, and 100 km/h is 62.14 mph. The tool on this page converts distance only, but if you have a speed and a distance you can work out time with those two conversions first.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the formula to convert miles to kilometers?

kilometers = miles x 1.609344. To convert the other way, kilometers x 0.621371 gives miles.

How many kilometers are in 10 miles?

10 miles is 16.093 km, from 10 x 1.609344 = 16.09344. For a rough figure, 10 miles is a little over 16 km.

What is a marathon in miles?

A marathon is 42.195 km, which is 26.219 miles — normally quoted as 26.2. A half marathon is 21.0975 km, or 13.11 miles.

Is a mile longer than a kilometer?

Yes. One mile is 1.609344 km, so a mile is about 61 percent longer than a kilometre. Running one kilometre is roughly the same as running six tenths of a mile.

How do I convert running pace from min/mile to min/km?

Divide the min/mile time by 1.609344. An 8:00 min/mile pace becomes about 4:58 min/km, and a 5:00 min/km pace becomes about 8:03 min/mile.
