Worked Examples

A head block for a product page

  • Title: "Blue Running Shoes — Free Shipping over $50 | StoreName" (54 characters)
  • Description: "Blue running shoes with free shipping on orders over $50. Sizes 6–13 in stock, 30-day returns and a two-year sole warranty." (137 characters)
  • Canonical: https://store.example.com/products/blue-running-shoes
  • og:title and og:description mirror the title and description; og:image points at a 1200×630 PNG so shared links show a card instead of bare text.

Where Google cuts the text

  • Titles are truncated at roughly 60 characters, descriptions at roughly 160. Write the important words first — the product and the benefit — and let the tail carry the brand name.
  • Google may rewrite the snippet when it matches the query better than your description does; a clear, accurate description is still what gets shown most of the time.

About Meta Tag Generator

Generate HTML meta tags for SEO. Enter your page title, description, and settings to get properly formatted meta tags including title, description, viewport, Open Graph, and Twitter Card tags. Note: Google does not use the meta keywords tag for ranking.

Limits: Meta keywords are generated only if you add them, and Google has ignored them since 2009; Character counts are advisory — Google truncates by pixel width, so very wide characters wrap sooner; The preview shows how the tags are structured, not a guaranteed Google or Facebook rendering

Who Uses This Tool

  • A developer adding social preview tags to a static site before launch
  • A marketer checking that a landing page has a canonical URL before an ad campaign goes live
  • A student assembling a complete head section for a course project in one copy-paste

Key Features

  • Title, description, viewport tags
  • Open Graph tags
  • Twitter Card tags
  • Canonical URL
  • Google preview

How to use Meta Tag Generator

  1. Enter your page title (50-60 characters recommended).
  2. Enter your meta description (150-160 characters recommended).
  3. Set the canonical URL.
  4. Toggle Open Graph and Twitter Card options.
  5. Copy the generated meta tags.

How It Compares

Most meta tag generators either focus on Open Graph only or bury the output behind an account. This one produces the full block — title, description, canonical, Open Graph and Twitter Card — in a single copyable snippet, with nothing uploaded and nothing to sign up for.

Because processing happens directly in your browser, your files and input are not uploaded to our servers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What meta tags are important for SEO?

Title tag, meta description, canonical URL, Open Graph tags (for social sharing), and viewport tag (for mobile). Google does not use the meta keywords tag for ranking.

What is Open Graph?

Open Graph tags control how your page appears when shared on social media platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn.

What is a canonical URL?

A canonical URL tells search engines which version of a page is the preferred one, preventing duplicate content issues.

Do I need meta keywords?

No. Google has not used the meta keywords tag for ranking since 2009. Focus on title, description, and content quality instead.

Do I still need a meta description if Google rewrites snippets?

Yes. Google rewrites the snippet when it thinks a passage on the page answers the query better than your description does, but your description is what gets shown most of the time — especially for branded searches and social shares. Writing one costs a minute and sets the first impression.

What is the viewport tag for and why does the tool include it?

Without a viewport meta tag, mobile browsers render pages at desktop width and zoom out, which makes text unreadable and pushes links apart. The tag tells the browser to match the device width, and it has been required for responsive pages since mobile-first indexing began.
