Stopwatch
Online stopwatch with lap times free — precise timing with lap recording for sports, coding, and productivity tracking.
Last updated: 10 October 2026
Time events to the millisecond with lap and split recording. A 10-minute run with a lap every 60 seconds kept millisecond precision across all ten laps and correctly flagged the fastest and slowest.
Stopwatch
Worked Examples
Tested run
- 10 laps at 60-second intervals — millisecond precision held throughout
- Fastest and slowest lap indicators identified the outliers correctly
- Times stayed within a few milliseconds of a wall clock over 10 minutes
Laps vs splits
- A lap resets the running time to zero for the next segment.
- A split records cumulative time from the start — use splits for race segments.
- Pause freezes everything including lap state; resume continues exactly where it stopped.
About Stopwatch
Online stopwatch with lap times and millisecond precision. Start, stop, pause, and record individual lap times. Displays hours, minutes, seconds, and milliseconds. Test data: ran for 10 minutes with lap times recorded every 60 seconds — millisecond precision was maintained across all 10 laps, with lap times accurate to within a few milliseconds of a wall clock. The fastest and slowest lap indicators correctly identified the outliers.
Limits: Background tab throttling may cause minor timing drift over long durations; No lap time export — must screenshot or copy manually; No split time mode (cumulative from start); requestAnimationFrame-based timing may pause in background tabs on some browsers
Who Uses This Tool
- A runner timing 10 laps around a track to compare consistency and identify their fastest lap
- A QA engineer measuring the load time of a web page across multiple refresh cycles
- A teacher timing a 5-minute presentation by a student with precise lap points at each minute
Key Features
- Millisecond precision (10ms update interval)
- Lap time recording
- Fastest and slowest lap indicators
- Total elapsed time display
- Pause and resume
- Reset to clear all data
How to use Stopwatch
- Click 'Start' to begin timing.
- Click 'Lap' to record a lap time without stopping the clock.
- Click 'Stop' to pause the stopwatch.
- Click 'Reset' to clear all times and laps.
How It Compares
Unlike online-stopwatch.com which shows ads and requires staying on their page, this tool runs cleanly in your browser with no account required. It also shows fastest/slowest lap indicators — a feature most free online stopwatches lack or charge premium for.
Privacy & Security
Because processing happens directly in your browser, your files and input are not uploaded to our servers.

About FreeDigitalToolkit →Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is the stopwatch?
It updates every 10ms (100 times per second) using requestAnimationFrame for smooth, accurate timing. Over short durations, accuracy is within a few milliseconds. Over very long durations (hours), browser throttling may introduce minor drift.
What's the difference between a lap and a split?
A lap records the time since the last lap (lap time). A split would record the time from start (cumulative time). This stopwatch shows lap times. The total elapsed time is always visible at the top.
Does the stopwatch keep running if I switch tabs?
It may slow down or pause depending on your browser. Most modern browsers throttle requestAnimationFrame in background tabs. For accurate long-duration timing, keep the tab in the foreground.
Can I export my lap times?
Currently lap times are displayed on screen but not exportable. For tracking over time, you could take a screenshot or copy the data manually.
How many laps can I record?
There's no hard limit, but very long lists (100+ laps) may cause scrolling issues on smaller screens. Each lap is appended to the list as you record it.
