The United States uses pounds (lbs) for everyday weight, while most of the world uses kilograms (kg). If you are following an international recipe, tracking fitness goals, or shipping a package, you need to convert between these two units.

The Conversion Formulas: Pounds to Kilograms: kg = lbs × 0.45359237. Kilograms to Pounds: lbs = kg × 2.20462262. Quick mental estimate: multiply pounds by 0.45 (or divide by 2.2) to get kilograms.

Common US Weight References: A newborn baby weighs about 7.5 lbs (3.4 kg). A gallon of milk weighs about 8.6 lbs (3.9 kg). An average adult male in the US weighs about 197 lbs (89.4 kg). The maximum checked baggage weight for most airlines is 50 lbs (22.7 kg). A marathon is 26.2 miles — the world record for 100 meters is about 220 lbs (100 kg) of force.

What I Tested: I used the Pounds to Kilograms Converter with several values.

• 150 lbs → 68.04 kg. Average adult male weight. Correct.

• 100 lbs → 45.36 kg. Half of an average adult. Correct.

• 200 lbs → 90.72 kg. Average weight for a large male. Correct.

• 50 lbs → 22.68 kg. Airline checked baggage limit. Correct.

• 10 lbs → 4.54 kg. Average grocery bag weight. Correct.

Step-by-Step: (1) Open the Pounds to Kilograms Converter. (2) Select the conversion type (Pounds to Kilograms or Kilograms to Pounds). (3) Enter the weight value. (4) See the converted result instantly.

One Limitation: The converter uses the standard conversion factor (1 lb = 0.45359237 kg). This is exact and does not introduce rounding errors. However, very large or very small values may display in scientific notation.

Common Mistake: Confusing pounds with ounces. There are 16 ounces in 1 pound. If a recipe calls for 8 ounces, that is 0.5 pounds (not 8 pounds).
